Kathryn Erskine

When: Sat., Aug. 6, 3-4 p.m. 2011

National Book Award winner Kathryn Erskine (Mockingbird) is making the rounds to support The Absolute Value of Mike, her new young readers novel. Mike has a learning disability for math, and his dad, whom he loves, is an expert in that subject. So when his dad sends him off to relatives for an "engineering project," Mike wants to do well. However, he finds that the project actually involves adopting a Romanian orphan, and what he's about to learn might teach him something more valuable than math. Erskine will read from and sign copies of the book, which is for ages 9 and up, at 3 p.m. —Zack Smith
