Karen Lord

When: Mon., Aug. 5, 7 p.m. 2013
Durham magazine Bull Spec has become an invaluable resource for cataloging, promoting and attracting science fiction and fantasy events in the Triangle, serving as a major source of social media for genre fans in the area while helping to draw large turnouts for author signings, conventions and more. There's not one but two Bull Spec events in the Triangle this week. Monday at 7 p.m. at Chapel Hill store Flyleaf, Barbados author Karen Lord discusses her new novel The Best of All Possible Worlds and what it's like to be a Caribbean SF author. Lord also will be at Saturday's 7 p.m. "Author Fest" at Quail Ridge in Raleigh, along with Nathan Ballingrud, Mur Lafferty, Will Hindmarch, Robert V.S. Redick, and Jeff and Ann VanderMeer. It's a good time to love science fiction and fantasy in the Triangle. —Zack Smith
