Juston Stens & Pete Donnelly

When: Thu., Nov. 14, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: $8
Stepping away from his usual seat as drummer for Dr. Dog (and, more recently, Generationals), Juston Stens proves to be an adept retro-pop craftsman on his own. While his solo foray doesn't detour far from his other bands' templates, he handles the lightly lo-fi mix of soul and twang with poise, suggesting kinship with Tar Heel favorites The Love Language and Floating Action. Also in solo sidebar form, co-headliner Pete Donnelly leaves his long-running cult-favorite band The Figgs to dip into mature pop-rock that should appeal to fans of Chuck Prophet or Sloan or, well, The Figgs. —Bryan C.
