When: Mon., Dec. 13, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $15
Between his father, Steve Earle, and namesake, Townes Van Zandt, 28-year old Justin Townes Earle has a lot to live up to. So far, he's acquitted himself well: While he draws from similar influences as his father, Justin hews closer to traditional country-blues forms, generally steering clear of the rock. Sure, his latest, Harlem River Blues, gets rockabilly on "Move Over Mama" and "Ain't Waitin'," but it's mostly subsumed with a soulful Americana swing. The album's depth and assurance paints his prior two efforts as a promise-in-progress that has now arrived. Caitlin Rose opens. —Chris Parker
