Just Jess, Hammer No More The Fingers, The Dirty Little Heaters

When: Fri., Aug. 21, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
On The Break-Up EP, Pink Flag’s Jessica Caesar makes her solo debut as Just Jess. Across six songs, Caesar grapples with the aftermath of a split. Her influences are both obvious and varied, with hints of ’80s pop, ’90s R&B and modern rock. “No More” features hiccuping, high synth bits over a dub bass line, while the front half of “The One Who Feels” is a murky mix of guitar and what sounds like a saw that yields to Caesar singing alone over melancholy cello. The stalwart Durham trio of Hammer No More the Fingers open, along with a resurrected Dirty Little Heaters, always exciting on any stage. —Allison Hussey
