Price: $5

At Motorco in Durham, we have Junot Díaz, author of the Pulitzer-winning The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, promoting his long-awaited new short story collection This Is How You Lose Her. Díaz's moving work and revealing readings tap into multiple experiences, including the mixed emotions of family, the pain and confusion of failed relationships and life as a Latino within the melting pot of the United States. Plus he makes lots of references to Galactus and nuclear panic movies and stuff. The book's launch recently inspired a near-riot in New York City, with fans trying to get a seat at an oversubscribed appearance. Be warned. —Zack Smith
