Junior Astronomers, Totally Slow, Naked Naps

When: Thu., Sept. 17, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $7
Two years after issuing Dead Nostalgia, Junior Astronomers have returned to the studio. New singles promise the next LP will maintain the band’s jagged, earnest post-punk while flashing some fresh inspirations, too. “Slow Beat” suggests heartland rock bombast, while “6 Weeks in India” even winks at country twang. But for the Charlotte quartet, the sweet spot comes with a bright, angular riff and singer Terrence Richard’s strained howl. —Bryan C. Reed
