Baltimore may be better known for some of its electro-pop acts of late—Future Islands, Dan Deacon, Wye Oak—but for the better part of 15 years, Americana act June Star has called the city home, too. Their new Pull Awake came out in late March, but they’re just now getting around to throwing a release party for it. Opening track “Tether” sets the record’s moderate pace, and what follows is pretty standard stuff: Frontman Andrew Grimm sings with a twangy, slight growl, and songs alternate between chugging electric guitar riffs and more mellow acoustic strums. And of course, there’s breezy pedal steel all over the place. Pull Awake might not compel you to jump out of your seat, but it’s at least worth nodding along to. —Allison Hussey
