JP Harris & the Tough Choices, John Howie Jr & the Rosewood Bluff

When: Wed., March 13, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $5

Hometown George Jones acolyte John Howie Jr. leads off this honky-tonk twinbill. With the Two Dollar Pistols, Howie's velveteen baritone coddled heartbreak's ache and daubed the eyes of regret; he now kicks up more dust with the country-rocking Rosewood Bluff. Headliner J.P. Harris possesses a complementary palette, with tears-in-your-beer two-steps and ragged roadburn rumbles such as the Junior Brown-channeling "Gear Jammin' Daddy." Harris sports a canny wit, too, as he negotiates the rings to hear her answering machine voice on "I'll Keep Calling" and gets bounced in a humorous mail metaphor, "Return to Sender." —Chris Parker
