Jonathan Katz

When: Wed., Feb. 13, 7 p.m. 2013

Durham journalist Jonathan Katz discusses The Big Truck That Went By: How the World Came to Save Haiti and Left Behind a Disaster, a harrowing account of his years as the only full-time American news correspondent in Haiti. He was there when the infamous earthquake hit, and he lived to see both its effects and the deeply flawed rescue efforts that followed. Katz is filled with insights about Haiti, the resilience of its people, the biggest problems with relief aid and the fickle nature of U.S. attitudes. It should be a fascinating discussion of an often-forgotten corner of the world. The event starts at 7 p.m. Check out the Artery blog at for our interview with Katz. —Zack Smith
