Jonathan Coulton, Paul & Storm

When: Fri., May 14, 9 p.m. 2010
Price: $18-22

Making the jump from writing software to writing songs can be difficult. As part of his transition, Jonathan Coulton made a yearlong commitment in 2005 to release a new song on his website every week. Topics ranged from supervillains and the zombie apocalypse to melancholic giant squids and shop vacs. The singer-songwriter even offered a window into his former life with "Code Monkey," which became an Internet sensation with insightful lyrics like, "Code Monkey like Fritos/ Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew." It's the right season to hear him play one such number, "The First of May." He glories in the warm weather, singing, "Grass below you, sky above/ Celebrate spring with a crazy little thing called... fucking outside." Coulton will be joined tonight by the comedy duo Paul and Storm. —Andrew Ritchey
