FLYLEAF BOOKS—Jon Fine has had professional roles in both the music and business sides of the music business. As a guitarist, he's played in bands such as Bitch Magnet and Don Caballero. He's also the executive editor of Inc. magazine, which focuses on new business growth, and continues to write a monthly media-centric column for Bloomberg Businessweek. Soon, he visits one of the South's largest indie-music hubs with his new memoir, Your Band Sucks: What I Saw at Indie Rock's Failed Revolution (But Can No Longer Hear). The book addresses the curious phenomenon of indie "fame" and how bands can rule an underground scene for years without ever really hitting the big time. At Flyleaf, Laura Ballance, the co-founder of the indie rock institutions Superchunk and Merge Records, joins Fine in a conversation about the tricky middle ground of success outside the mainstream. 7 p.m., free, 752 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Chapel Hill, 919-942-7373, —Allison Hussey
