Re: “A Durham County Sheriff’s Office Major Says Elected Officials May Be Obstructing Justice in the Confederate Monument Case

A Sheriff is a politically elected law officer with the power of life or death over citizens. Something that should be abhorrent in a democracy. The Council was elected to represent the people. Ostensibly, these entities should be playing on the same team. In this instance there is more than a whiff of fascism coming from the Sheriff's office. Perhaps they should not have sent a large white man in uniform to berate the people standing for the destruction of symbols of white supremacy. Let's hope that this is just a matter of optics, because the optics are bad.

Instead of sparring with the people's representatives, perhaps the Sheriff should be working to identify and reveal who in his department started the rumor of a KKK rally in Durham, and why.

Re: “A Brief Note on the Indy's Recent Personnel Changes

Good luck to Skillet and Grayson! I've enjoyed their work for years and will miss them in these pages.

Re: “Pat McCrory Deserves All the Hell He’s Catching for HB 2

Proudly Un is getting some good old victim-blaming practice in. Next he will be claiming that all the handicapped people made him take their designated parking place because they put them so conveniently close to the store that he couldn't resist. And then he will blame the kid for not holding tightly enough onto the lollipop he just stole.

Re: “Trophy's New Horchata Stout is the Brewery's Best Beer Yet

I wonder if they sterilized the tea before adding it to the fermenter?

Re: “A Duke senior sues the university after being expelled over allegations of sexual misconduct

The boy behaved in a predatory fashion and ignored cues both subtle and overt. He did not have the class or simple decency to stop when he heard the word "No", This may not have risen to the level of a criminal case of rape, but it was certainly that from a higher, ethical standpoint. The girl should not be asked to just shrug this off as a live and learn experience. She was violated and abandoned and the boy should pay the price.

Re: “25 years of photos

The slide show is fantastic, but one of your captions misidentifies Michael Harris as "Michael Green". He is a good friend of mine but I haven't seen him in years since his unfortunate stroke 4 or 5 years ago.
