John Howie & The Rosewood Bluff, Amigo

When: Fri., Sept. 23, 8:30 p.m. 2016
Price: $5
John Howie Jr. takes a break from recording his new solo album, Not Tonight, for this gig with The Rosewood Bluff, the tough, tearful, and twangy outfit that’s followed in the footsteps of his classic country commandos, Two Dollar Pistols. Charlotte’s Amigo seems to have been plucked from some desert several hundred miles further southwest, where the sun melts stacks of honky-tonk and rock ’n’ roll LPs together with hooky earworms showcasing a classic pop and doo-wop influence. —Spencer Griffith
