John Hodgman (& Megafaun)

When: Wed., Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m. 2011
Phone: 286-2700
Price: $25

Ubiquitous author, actor and Twitterer John Hodgman has achieved demigod status in the nerd community with his books, Daily Show appearances and of course his portrayal of the ever-upstaged PC in the "I'm a Mac" ads. He has just finished an epic trilogy of fake human knowledge, That Is All, in which he adopts a terrifying mustache, explains how to live as a deranged millionaire and prepares us for the end times. Also, he recounts kissing Grace Jones. We called up Hodgman to find out what audiences can expect.

"I think by the time I'm in Durham, I'll be speaking more or less extemporaneously about sports and the difference between American football and European football, including the fact that one actually uses a ball and one uses something that would only be called a ball by a mentally ill person," he says. In addition, Hodgman suggests there might be magic tricks, a proposal for a reality show and his thoughts on the coming Ragnarok. He doesn't have time to visit Occupy Raleigh, but "I do hope they're able to take showers before I come to town, because that's just not something I can tolerate."

Read our full interview with Hodgman, where we also discuss his mustache and TV's Hillbilly Handfishin' on Artery, the Indy arts blog. Tickets to this 7:30 p.m. appearance (doors open at 6:45 p.m.) are free with a purchase of That Is All at the Regulator Bookshop. —Zack Smith
