John Fullbright, Sam Doores, Riley Downing & the Tumbleweeds

When: Thu., June 13, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $8-16

Oklahoma singer-songwriter John Fullbright's folksy baritone ambles gently but surely through barrelhouse blues, loping confessional balladry and folk-soul on last year's From the Ground Up. The wavering organ often sets the tone, much like with The Band, though Fullbright is equally capable of supple folk-blues. "Satan and St. Paul" showcases his lyrical craft as he tries to escape a bad situation: "Don't tell me that you love me, I've gotten nothing left in turn, except this empty bag of promises and second-degree burns ... I could use another 20 years to fix the last 15." With Sam Doores & Riley Downing and the Tumbleweeds. —Chris Parker
