John Davis, Brice Randall Bickford (Back Room)

When: Mon., Aug. 3, 8:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $10-$12
Compared to his former partner in the Folk Implosion, Sebadoh main man Lou Barlow, John Davis kept to a quieter release schedule back in the ’90s, with only a clutch of albums and singles to his name. After a long silence, he returned to formal releases with 2013’s Spare Parts. It was a striking album featuring a slew of collaborations but all in service of his own strong vision, highlighted by songs like “Silhouette” and “Blood Feud.” Catching him live is well worth your time and a reminder that, even as ’90s nostalgia seems to grow, sometimes a scene is about the figures who worked away from the spotlight as much as in it. —Ned Raggett
