Re: “Here Is Why Police Body Cams in North Carolina Need to Be Public Record

I am 73, was born in Marion and raised in Asheville. Buncombe & Asheville have always been a clearinghouse for police violence against its citizens, both black and white.

What's amusing to me is that while our local politicians like Esther Manheimer cuddle up to transparency, Constitutional rights, and conciliation, they secretly mean to rule with iron fists.

They're not angry that Johnnie Jermaine Rush was brutalized. They're angry they've been exposed as hypocrites while they've been bragging about how indulgent and gentle our police are.

Re: “The Quiet Battle for the N.C. Supreme Court Matters More Than You Think

To Mr. Mortimer: Yes, a retention election is probably less a function of partisan politics than regular election contests, but before they can be held in North Carolina, it seems to me that North Carolina's Constitution should be amended. The poor thing is battered enough by rogue judicial injuries against it, as it is.

I have seen injury piled on injury against NC's Constitution. Some of these appellate judges ought to conspire among themselves to uphold it for a change.
