Joan Shelley, Elephant Micah, Ryan Gustafson

When: Tue., Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $10 suggested donation
With her marvelous voice and stunning songwriting, Joan Shelley should be packing rooms like the Carolina Theatre. Seeing her in a teeny Durham storefront is a treat indeed. The Kentucky-based Shelley delivered the captivating Electric Ursa just last September, and her new Over and Even is a fitting if more understated follow-up. Songs like “Stay on My Shore” are so tender that you feel afraid to exhale. Guitarist Nathan Salsburg, a fellow talented Kentuckian who lent licks to most of Over and Even, joins Shelley. —Allison Hussey
