Re: “Muddy message, bland candidate: Why the Democrats lost

"The Democrats' challenge, on the other hand, is to convince enough voters and potential voters that if government helps those in need, the economy will expand and almost everyone will be better off."

I'm trying to understand how this works.

government helps those in need = higher taxes, more waste and corruption (see NC DHHS), more dependency on the gov check, more sitting around eating chips and drinking beer. That's what I see with my own eyes in the neighborhood where I live. I do not see the people who vote democratic doing anything to expand the economy. Well, ok, I guess the snack food and beer companies profit.

There's a steady stream of people walking the sidewalk back and forth near me from their govt. subsidized housing to the grocery store carrying their junk food. I see in the checkout line what they spend their limited cash and stamps on. I hear them talk about their court cases, and spending their day playing video poker. It's very sad. It basically boils down to these people do not know how to make good decisions, especially when they plan on the govt. being there to bail them out. This is very costly to all of us. I just do not understand how you can say this makes almost everyone better off.
