Re: “Finding the pulse of Franklin Street

As President of the Carrboro Merchants Association, I would like nothing more than to see a resurgent Franklin Street - perhaps led by the terrific shops on West Franklin Street - which many simply call "The West End." Earlier this year, in attempt to help preserve the unique Carrboro experience, 21 merchants banded together to create the Walk Carrboro campaign - the maps, banners, website (www.walkcarrboro.com) and local enthusiasm is all focused on preserving the character and charm that people claim Chapel Hill and Franklin Street have lost. Now while I still enjoy Chapel Hill, I do invite folks to re-discover the the center of Carrboro, filled with locally made chocolate, coffee, unique craft and gift shops and art galleries featuring local and internationally acclaimed art. Carrboro is all about the passionate people who have opened shops here. Here's hoping that passion and retail landscape is contagious...
