Jimmy Carter

When: Tue., Sept. 28, 7 p.m. 2010

UPDATE FROM THE REGULATOR (Sept. 28): We have just heard that Former President Jimmy Carter will be spending the night in the hospital in Cleveland after all. He will not be at The Regulator tonight. We await word on a rescheduling. Watch www.regulatorbookshop.com.

Former President Jimmy Carter stops by Durham to promote his new book two days after it goes on sale. For his White House Diary, Carter picked the most interesting and relevant entries. We haven't seen a copy, so we'll have to wait to find out if it contains more references to Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin than to being attacked by a rabbit (no kidding, google it). By now, 30 years after leaving office, Carter arguably has distinguished himself more with his diplomacy and charitable works. He recently published a New York Times op-ed piece that urged the resumption of diplomacy with North Korea, based on hints that were passed his way during a recent trip to Asia, and his last book carried the urgent title of We Can Have Peace in the Holy Land: A Plan That Will Work. Lettered tickets will be given out with each book sold, which will then hold a place in the signing line. —Sarah Ewald
