Jill Andrews, Josh Oliver

When: Fri., June 21, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $10-12

Since the split of her terrifically mournful alt-country project the Everybodyfields, singer-songwriter Jill Andrews has deftly balanced her maturing pop sensibilities with just a twinge of twang. Along with the lilting jilted-lover ditty "Another Man" from her full-length debut, Andrews' graceful new single "Rust or Gold"—featured last month in an episode of Grey's Anatomy—suggests it's only a matter of time until she crosses over into the mainstream. Andrews still specializes in heart-rending ballads; few artists approach the devastation she conveys with her soaring and sighing voice. Guitarist and keyboardist Josh Oliver, Andrews' sideman and harmonizer, opens with a solo set of rustic tunes highlighted by his distinctive warble. —Spencer Griffith
