Re: “The High and Mighties

I would like to make just a few comments. First, the title of the EP, Evolution, is not necessarily meant to proclaim the album as the end all be all next step in music, and/or in music production. As a long time fan of the High and Mighties, I realize the title Evolution most likely alludes to the progress and the maturation process of the band itself. Secondly, Mr. Griffith, I doubt you have ever attended their live show. When you stand in the audience beside first-timers and fans alike, you start to see and understand the connection between this band and the crowd. Everyone has a great time dancing, singing along, and just enjoying the experience of the show. I have to respect these guys. I saw them start as a cover band, then a Ska band, and then they moved on to play only their originals. As time passed, the band polished their songs, changing formats and the like, in order to find their precise soundtheir voice. Now with Evolution, it seems to me that they made a decision, a significant choice, between pleasing critics or pleasing fans. Luckily, they sided with fans.

I understand that it is your job, as a critic, to review albums and write your opinion. Im sure your goal is to convey what you believe to be true, your critique. I do not fault you for that. Although you should know there are hundreds and thousands of people, call them fans, that love the High and Mighties, their music, their albums, their live shows, most importantly their voice, and they will continually support this band.

Ive watched this band lose members, replace members, and add members to their lineup. Their time is NOW, they got it right, everythings in place and nothing can hold them back. Again, Im not discounting your opinions; I only wanted to voice my opinion. Thankfully, critics do not determine the success of a band, fans do. Im happy knowing that fans love the High and Mighties.
