Jeff Sipe Trio, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, Michael Bellar

When: Fri., May 22, 10 p.m. 2015
Price: $8-$10
Known for holding the throne in Leftover Salmon and Aquarium Rescue Unit, drummer Jeff Sipe leads his own trio through tuneful jazz pieces that stay smooth despite rapid runs from guitarist Mike Seal and bassist Taylor Lee. With the steel pan, fellow percussionist Jonathan Scales fronts his Fourchestra for oddball instrumentals with tropical flair. Keyboardist Michael Bellar has previously worked as a sideman for Art Garfunkel and Amos Lee. Here, the NC native goes solo for funky explorations that could’ve soundtracked a hip ’70s film. —Spencer Griffith
