Jeb Bishop, Casey Toll and Dan Westerlund; Quetico

When: Thu., July 30, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
Decades ago, Jeb Bishop was part of a string of impeccably named Triangle rock institutions, including Stillborn Christians and Angels of Epistemology. After a long run away in Chicago, where he rose to prominence in the city’s jazz scene as an improviser, trombonist and avid collaborator, he returned to North Carolina in 2012. He’s become an impresario of sorts, organizing shows by touring friends and participating in the ensembles of others. Here, he leads a trio with a relatively fresh-faced rhythm section better known for its rock associations—Casey Toll, who plays bass in Mount Moriah, and Daniel Westerlund, whose extensive résumé ranges from Bowerbirds to Canine Heart Sounds. Collectively, they seem lithe but relaxed, able to live inside pieces as well as enliven them. Westerlund opens with Canine keys companion Matt Peterson as Quetico. —Grayson Haver Currin
