Jean Van’t Hul

When: Sat., May 18, 7 p.m. 2013
The educational buzzword is no longer STEM, it's STEAM. Activists, government agencies and even politicians are getting behind the idea that without the addition of Art to the Science-Technology-Engineering-Math acronym, we won't have the juice necessary for innovation and progress. Jean Van't Hul, a mother of two who writes on her Artful Parent blog, gets this. Her new book features more than 60 arts and crafts projects for ages 1 to 8 that are especially designed to build creativity, imagination, motor skills and self-confidence. Don't expect to find paper snowflakes and construction paper hearts in these pages: Van't Hul offers ideas for far more interesting projects, from bubble prints to musical chairs art. She'll demonstrate a few of the projects at this bookstore event. —Emma Miller
