JD Wilkes & the Dirt Daubers, Curtis Eller's American Circus

When: Fri., Nov. 15, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $8-10
J.D. Wilkes is best known as the manic, harmonica-blowing frontman of the Legendary Shack Shakers. The hard-touring outfit went on hiatus a year ago, and Wilkes has since dedicated himself to this quartet featuring his wife, Jessica, and Shack Shaker guitarist Rod Hamdallah. They've released three albums in the last four years, none of them as visceral, intense or arresting as the Shakers' swampy rockabilly. Veteran banjo man Curtis Eller delivers rollicking old-time American roots with ramshackle charm and gospel swing, like a backwoods Baptist version of Gogol Bordello. —Chris Parker
