Jason & the Scorchers with Stacie Collins, Terry Anderson & the Olympic Ass-Kickin' Team

When: Sat., Jan. 8, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $15-18
When they first emerged in the mid-1980s, the Scorchers' combustible twang was the hottest country-punk act this side of X or True Believers. At a time when most underground music lovers described their interests as "anything but country," Jason Ringenberg's quartet balanced slashing guitar and a dusty amble with enough finesse and bite to open indie rock snobs' minds. Their disappointing 1989 hard-rock third album, Thunder & Fire, led to a split, but they reunited in the mid-'90s and again last year for a terrific comeback disc, Halcyon Times. Up-and-coming Nashville singer Stacie Collins guests with the band on this tour. Opening at 9 p.m. are Terry Anderson & the Olympic Ass-Kickin' Team, whose bar band swagger imbues their Southern rawk with crackle. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 day of show. —Chris Parker
