Jamla Records Show with Rapsody, Big Remo, Halo, Away Team, Heather Victoria, Actual Proof, GQ

When: Fri., Nov. 30, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $10

9th Wonder's pet octopus, Jamla Records, is a cephalopod of many talents, hell-bent on staining its ink onto regal beats. He's determined to turn the record label into a hip-hop powerhouse, but so far, only one of its appendages, Rapsody, has graduated from the blogosphere and Twitterverse soapboxes and been seen, heard and sanctioned on rap-elite platforms such as Hot 97 and BET.

For now, the label is riding on 9th Wonder's work ethic as producer and his academic work at both Duke and Harvard as a hip-hop advocate, fellow and teacher in the music field. But Jamla's fortunes may improve after next year's releases: GQ's debut LP, Death Threats and Love Notes; Heather Victoria's Black Girl Story; Halo's collaborative project with Wu-Tang's Masta Killa, Mansa Musa; and Big Remo's Hero. Friday, the crew celebrates its expansive discography, reminding the Triangle that the Jamla well will continue to be replete with rap capital. Boot Camp Click's Buckshot makes a guest appearance. —Eric Tullis
