James McMurtry, Max Gomez

When: Tue., April 14, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $20-$25
His daddy is Lonesome Dove scribe Larry McMurtry, but James’ literary work is more politically oriented and acerbic. The Austin singer-songwriter’s latest, Complicated Game, is sonically softer than previous releases, strummed on an acoustic guitar with some occasional banjo clatter. His subject matter is as hard as ever. This one is more about personal struggle against hardship rather than politics, with stories of the downtrodden fighting a cold, cruel world. —Grant Britt
