Jake Shimabukuro

When: Wed., Nov. 20, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $27-35
Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro built his career slowly, spending the first half-dozen years going from Hawaiian ensemble Pure Heart to solo career to Japanese sensation to international star. He's now the 21st-century Don Ho. In 2006, his YouTube cover of George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" went viral. He's since released albums with clever takes on "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Thriller," "In My Life" and "Rolling in the Deep." His originals are equally strong, if less often noticed. Now 37, Shimabukuro has turned the ukulele's obvious limits into an idiosyncratic and unpredictable source of delight. —Chris Parker
