Jacqueline Kelly

When: Tue., Jan. 18, 7:30 p.m. 2011
Jacqueline Kelly scored big with her first novel, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, which won the 2010 Newbery Honor, one of the highest awards a children's book can receive. The tale of an upper-crust girl in turn-of-the-century Texas whose world is opened up by the gift of a Charles Darwin book, Tate deals with issues of early feminism and finding oneself, creating a memorable role model for young girls in the process. The book is newly out in paperback; Kelly will read from and sign copies starting at 7:30 p.m. —Zack Smith
