J. Gunn Record Release Party, Wreck N Crew

When: Fri., March 9, 10 p.m. 2012
Price: $10-$12

During the late '90s, a 13-year-old named J. Gunn dominated a series of Triangle rap battles known as "Duel of Iron Mics." Today, the still-punchline-heavy emcee, whose full name is Joshua Gunn, is all grown up, having graduated from both the battle circuit and N.C. A&T and releasing a couple of full-length projects along the way. Legendary female emcee MC Lyte has taken him under her wing, resulting in Gunn's new The Faithful Struggle LP. On this night, feel free to take notes, but for your own good, don't take any challenges. Durham acts Wreck-N-Crew and K-Hill help rock this release party. —Eric Tullis
