MichaelB, there is no shortage of affordable housing in Durham especially in comparison to adjacent Wake and Orange counties. And with the relatively small size of the downtown area, this housing problem is being greatly overstated in my opinion. Regarding housing, we should let downtown and RTP be developed to its full potential without further meddling. I'm excited to see what these areas could become.

There is plenty of affordable housing on the outskirts of downtown Durham, and with public transit center city is easily accessible to every citizen even without a car. Why is it necessary to have low-income development in every nook and cranny of Durham? As an African American who has lived in Durham for 40+ years, I can say this is truly a non-story.
