Horror, Suspense/Thriller

This second installment of this '50s-inspired chiller doesn't make the audience guess too long about the Lambert history or their future fate. Paterfamilias Josh (Patrick Wilson) is still lingering on an astral plane while his spirit-infected body nestles up close to wife Renai (Rose Byrne) and son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) in a new, haunt-free home. When ghoulish shadows start to appear and Josh's body becomes ashen with telltale decay, the plot becomes a rehashing of the original. Director James Wan has a more adept hand with the camera this time, framing actors, objects and shadows for maximum impact, but the convoluted story dilutes the thrills.
