Input Electronic Music Series: Archnemesis, Thumper

When: Wed., Nov. 18, 9:30 p.m. 2015

Archnemesis refers to his music as “electro hip-hop soul.” In reality, the South Carolina producer stirs an eclectic mix of electro and sample-based funk that genre clusters don’t do justice. His percussion alternates between Dilla-ish jazz-hop and modern EDM, while synths come thick and sloppy. There’s some scratching, too. Heaviest in the mix are the samples culled from ’70s funk records and blaxploitation soundtracks. If you enjoyed the last Pretty Lights record, imagine his aggressive younger brother. —David Ford Smith
