Re: “The One Percent will eat the poor, and other prophecies

Where is Mr. Crowther these days? Is he still in New York? Just wondering?

My wife and I live in WNC now and up here it is quite conservative politically. We are long time Democrats and not conservative. In general, the people here who disagree with each other politically don't talk to each other in the same tone used by Mr. Crowther's column. (or in the writings of far right wing websites either) I think it is time to look for common ground rather than fanning the flames.

Re: “NCCU law school faculty to vote on whether to accept Pope-funded constitutional law center

Once the center is in the hands of NCCU law school then it is theirs, not Art Pope's. If somebody wants to give something to the UNC system then it should be openly given with no strings. If there are conditions that Mr. Pope attaches to his gift then they should be openly discussed.

Re: “The odd shapes of the GOP congressional redistricting plan

How did things with the Asheville in the same district as Gastonia end up? I have lived in North Carolina since 1959. We moved from Kentucky to Gastonia. After a few years my father's job took us to Asheville. So, I am probably one of the few North Carolinians that found himself homesick for my friends in Gastonia when I found myself in junior high school in Asheville! Alas, then from Asheville to Charlotte then to Wilmington to Raleigh and now in Brevard. I can honestly say that I love all of North Carolina!

However, putting Asheville with Gastonia so that the Republicans can be Heath Shuler seems a waste of time: Shuler is actually a Republican already as far as I can tell. Anyway, either party will have a hard time finding a person who likes to play duck pins and who also likes ramp casserole!

Re: “Republicans are in control of the Legislature. Now what?

We know they can talk but can they govern? Time will tell.
