Those thoughts were the inspiration in 1968 for the name that four young African Americans took for their group--a groundbreaking ensemble that threw words around like Molotov cocktails to a heavy African beat. The remaining two original members of The Last Poets--Umar Bin Hassan and Abiodun Oyewole--headline the Hayti Heritage Center's Spoken Word and Hip Hop Festival on Saturday, Nov. 13 with MUGABEE and Tim Lee. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, $8 students and senior citizens.
You can find information at www.hayti.org about events, films and workshops at the four-day festival, which runs Nov. 11-14.
