Whether your beef is that He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good, or He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance, or He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power, or the fact that Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury, it's that time of year to celebrate the grand opposition to old King George.

Here's a rundown of 4th festivities:

Carrboro 9:30 a.m.: Kickoff activities at Weaver Street Market lawn; 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.: Celebration at Town Hall featuring David Holt & The Lighting Bolts

Cary 3-9:30 p.m.: U.S. Army Band, U.S. Herald Trumpets, N.C. Symphony and more followed by fireworks at Booth Amphitheatre

Chapel Hill 7-10 p.m.: Black & Blue Dance & Show Band and fireworks at Kenan Stadium

Durham 6 p.m.: Performances by Lyon Park dance group Eclipse and Johnny White & The Elite Band at American Tobacco Historic District Amphitheatre; 7:30 pm: Durham Bulls Athletic Park opens during seventh inning and House of Rhythm Band plays at game's end followed by fireworks

Raleigh 11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Music, dancing, military displays, crafts, activities and ";A Salute to Independence" at the State Capitol and Museum of History; 1-9 p.m.: Carnival rides, food, Snoopy's hot-dog eating contest, fireworks and more at the N.C. State Fairgrounds

Have fun, be safe and remember what T.J. said: A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
