Ice is universal, occurring naturally on every continent. But the frost that spikes a plant stem in winter differs from an indigo cavern in the Rhone Glacier; both vary from the massive—and now eroding—cliffs of Antarctica. Photographer, videographer and concert flutist Brooks de Wetter-Smith has captured images of ice in its many forms during his travels. In exploring ice's strength and fragility, its structures and its encounters with human and animal life, he's enlisted composer Lowell Liebermann and Boston choreographer Carey McKinley in a new multi-media performance under development in UNC's Process Series. See the free show, then stay for discussion with the artists. —Byron Woods
