I Was Totally Destroying It album release, The Beast, Des Ark, Lilac Shadows

When: Sat., Aug. 25, 8:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $6-9

Vexations, the fourth proper LP by the always-audacious Chapel Hill quartet I Was Totally Destroying It, again finds the band pushing their pop bravura to new extremes. There's a dance beat and a Modest Mouse nod, a jangling and textured pop-rock lilt and a ballad that almost seems outsized enough to fill the sizable gap between modern country radio listeners and Death Cab for Cutie fans. At times, IWTDI even pushes toward M83 grandeur before pushing back to its core of power-pop earnestness. Tonight, they'll release Vexations on a four-piece bill that includes Des Ark, The Beast and Lilac Shadows. For our full review of the album, visit indyweek.comGrayson Currin
