Gracelee Lawrence

When: May 4-June 22 2012

Gracelee Lawrence launches her first large-scale sculptural installation, Hypertridimentional, with an artist's talk on Thursday, June 14. But it's not a normal artist's talk. Sure, Lawrence will shed light upon her creative process and answer questions about the distinctive salmon-colored fiber she frequently uses, her construction of the geometric armatures she swaths with that fiber, and the arrangement of these body-like forms. Additionally, however, attendees will get to rearrange the modular sculptural forms in the exhibition space, creating an entirely new installation. While installation artists frequently talk about activating the gallery space, few do anything but fill a room with stuff. Here, Lawrence casts viewers as compositional participants and physically involves them with the spatial relationships of her pieces. Hypertridimentional is showing in VAE's Cube Gallery through June 22. The talk begins at 7 p.m.,June 14. —Chris Vitiello
