How to Survive a Plague

When: Thu., Jan. 24, 7:30 p.m. 2013
Price: free

David France's 2012 documentary about the rise of AIDS activism is a painful reminder that in the 1980s, the disease was a virtually unexplored epidemic, one that was often disregarded as a "gay disease." (A recent article in the final print issue of Newsweek explored a generation of artists virtually wiped out by AIDS.) France's film chronicles the efforts of the organizations ACT UP and TAG (Treatment Action Group) over a decade, during which ACT UP splintered but new efforts to find a cure took hold, leading to many of the treatments that help victims manage the disease today. The Full Frame-sponsored free screening starts at 7:30 p.m. —Zack Smith
