Re: “In the Shadow of a Gunman: Thoughts on a Massacre and What We Must Do to Stop the Next One

This article is awfully one sided. I guess I expect a more dispassionate and wholistic perspective on the issue. Articles like these polarize our State and Country. The more you dig in the more your opposition does.

Creating real change requires compassion and understanding for folks on both sides of the issue. Picking and choosing which constitutional rights to uphold doesn't work. We know this.

Saying gay rights are more "important" than gun rights doesn't work. It's subjective. I may feel that way but not everyone does. The more we try to politicize social issues the worse it gets. All constitutional rights are important and in order to not infringe on a specific right, we must choose not to infringe on any.

Demonizing assault rifles is not going to deescalate tensions in this country. It's not going to stop a pre-meditated attack nor is it going to support the need for better mental health care. It's no different than banning pitbulls. The dog (or gun) isn't the issue. Stop tying to treat the symptoms and try to heal the source of the issue.
