Thanks for this long look at volunteerism in this community - unfortunately, I think that in today's dollar driven world, things that don't benefit commercial advertisers are doomed to fail. The only reason this even happened is because several powerful someones knew they'd make money; the volunteers were the free labor that subsidized their commercial venture - the house for a needy family was simply a happy side-effect, and makes them look even better. It would have been nice to see a more critical look at what happened, though; I've tried to pull together articles on both sides as well as quotes from various interested parties here: http://www.hewnandhammered.com/hewn_and_hammered/2007/01/extreme_makeove.html
