Here We Go Magic, Lilac Shadows

When: Wed., Oct. 3, 9:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $10-12

Luke Temple's strange brainchild, Here We Go Magic, draws from a wide spectrum of pretty music to create complex, sunny pop. Sometimes Krautrock repetition leads to pleasant hypnosis; elsewhere, electronic noises bubble to the surface over upbeat drumming. It's busy, jubilant stuff. Locals Lilac Shadows have plenty of pretty, too, but less of Here We Go Magic's sugar-high pep. There's poppiness and restrained bounce, but Lilac Shadows' psychedelic breaks and patient constructions expand into engrossing, dynamic micro-epics. They owe debts to both British drug-rock and the big-melody worship of recent indie rock. —Corbie Hill
