Hepcat Race

When: Sat., Aug. 31 2013
A group bike-slash-scavenger hunt in downtown Raleigh? Money to save adoptable cats and kittens? Beer afterward, and prizes? Why didn't someone think of this before? Well, this is actually Year 3 of Hepcat, a fundraiser operating out of Oak City Cycling Project that has raised $5,000 for SAFE Haven, a 17-year-old no-kill shelter for cats. The event consists of a route around downtown Raleigh that will remain secret until Saturday. All sorts of popular local businesses have signed on to sponsor; food trucks and Big Boss beer round out the attractions at the closed-street finale. Check-in at 1 p.m. at 212 E. Franklin St., race at 2 p.m.; $10 registration. —David Fellerath
