HENRY WINKLER AND LIN OLIVER

THURSDAY, FEB. 12, RALEIGH

QUAIL RIDGE BOOKS & MUSIC—If he had only been "The Fonz" on Happy Days, the producer of MacGyver and the perverse lawyer Barry Zuckerkorn on Arrested Development, TV actor Henry Winkler would earn his place in Heaven. But he gets extra credit for his work as a children's book author, turning his experiences growing up with dyslexia into the Hank Zipzer series, co-written with Lin Oliver. The latest book, Fake Snakes and Weird Wizards, finds Hank trying to play magician for his sister's birthday party, with potentially disastrous results. Winkler and Oliver appear at Quail Ridge for a signing-line event (just books, no memorabilia), and you can enter a drawing to have Winkler record your voice-mail message, Carl Kasell-style. The pair also appears at McIntyre's Fine Books in Pittsboro the following night. If you meet him, don't be a jerk—keep your thumbs in your pockets. 7 p.m., signing line ticket with purchase of book, 3522 Wade Ave., Raleigh, 919-828-1588, www.quailridgebooks.com. —Zack Smith
