Helado Negro

When: Fri., Oct. 23, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
Helado Negro gave googly eyes to an already cozy crowd in Indianapolis last week when he asked us to step toward the stage. “I want this to be more intimate,” he said. From his earnest, bashful stage rapport comes a quiet bravado, amplified by moody beats and bilingual, cerebral lyrics. His range starts as a deep croon reminiscent of Latin rock legend Gustavo Cerati and culminates in a near-falsetto. Helado Negro returns to Durham with the addition of dancers dressed head to toe in long strands of tinsel. —Victoria Bouloubasis
